Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum delivered her first State of the Union address on Monday, stressing mutual respect and cooperation as the cornerstone of Mexico’s relationship with the United States.

Sheinbaum noted that Mexico holds the world’s lowest average tariff rate and pointed to ongoing dialogue with U.S. agencies aimed at managing new tariff measures. She also announced that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit Mexico on Tuesday to discuss a new security cooperation framework built on “shared responsibility, mutual trust, and respect for sovereignty.” She described the principle of the deal as “cooperation without subordination.”

The speech comes as Mexico works to balance its economic and security relations with Washington, its largest trading partner, while adapting to evolving global trade conditions.
