Five dead, dozens injured as tour bus overturns in Upstate New York

A tour bus carrying more than 50 passengers overturned on Interstate 90 in Upstate New York, killing at least five people and injuring dozens, officials said.

The bus, traveling from Niagara Falls to New York City, resulted in at least five fatalities, including one child, and multiple injuries.

Trooper James O’Callaghan, a spokesperson for the New York State Police, said most passengers were of Asian descent, including Chinese, Indian, and Filipino nationals.

Some passengers were trapped inside the wreckage, while others were thrown from the bus when it flipped onto its side in a roadside ditch.

The driver, who survived, lost control while traveling at full speed, causing the vehicle to flip into the median. No other vehicles were involved.

Authorities, including the National Transportation Safety Board, are investigating the crash, and the driver is cooperating.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed the fatalities on social media. The highway was closed in both directions following the accident, leading to significant traffic delays during the summer travel period.
