A military drone exploded in a cornfield in eastern Poland, shattering windows but causing no injuries, according to preliminary investigations.
Authorities continue to remain on high alert after the incident which occured in the early hours of Wednesday following previous instances of stray missiles entering Polish airspace.
The blast occurred in a field in the village of Osiny, in Lublin province near the Ukrainian border.
Authorities discovered burnt metal and plastic debris at the site, and corn crops within an 8–10-metre radius were scorched.
Police confirmed that no one was hurt, although several homes in the surrounding area reported shattered windows.
Lublin regional prosecutor Grzegorz Trusiewicz said the object was “most likely a military drone” and appeared to have been damaged by explosives. Investigators are continuing to examine the debris to determine its origin.
Polish state media PAP quoting a military source reports that the drone did not carry a warhead and was most likely a decoy drone.
