US President Donald Trump has announced via his Truth Social account that he held a “highly successful” phone call with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Trump’s declaration that the United States will impose a 25 per cent tariff on India has placed Washington–New Delhi relations under the spotlight, while the President has also revealed that he has issued tariff letters to seven additional countries.

Speaking on negotiations with Mexico, Trump underlined that the deal is more complex than those with other nations due to border issues and existing resources:
“We have agreed to extend the arrangement we recently reached for a further 90 days. Mexico will continue paying a 25 per cent tariff on fentanyl, a 25 per cent tariff on cars, and a 50 per cent tariff on steel, aluminium and copper,” Trump stated.

According to Trump, Mexico has also agreed to remove numerous non-tariff trade barriers immediately. Over the next 90 days, the two sides will hold further talks, aiming to sign a comprehensive trade agreement within this period.

The US President further emphasised that cooperation at the border will continue on all aspects of security, including drug trafficking, drug distribution and illegal migration.
