United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, says the US had direct contact with the rebel faction, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which overthrew Syria's President Bashar al-Assad. Speaking after meeting foreign ministers of Arab nations and Türkiye in Jordan, Blinken says a joint statement had been agreed that sets out the principles that other nations want to see followed in Syria's political transition.
Blinken also highlighted the role of the United States in assisting Syria on its new path.
