Japan will purchase a 100 aircraft from U.S.-based Boeing as part of a broader trade agreement with Washington, which also includes commitments to increase imports of American rice and agricultural goods.

Under the deal, Japan will significantly boost imports of American agricultural and other products, including a 75% increase in rice imports from the U.S.

The agreement also includes provisions for a substantial annual increase in Japan’s defence equipment purchases from the United States.

As part of its strategic trade and investment partnership with Washington, Tokyo will invest $550 billion in the U.S. economy to modernise and expand its key industries. Notably, the United States will retain 90% of the revenue generated from this investment.

In return, the U.S. has agreed to lower its import tariffs on Japanese goods from 25% to 15%.
