The U.S. State Department has approved a possible $620 million sale of a Naval Strike Missile Coastal Defense System to Bulgaria, the Pentagon announced on Monday.

The system, which includes launchers, fire control, logistics, and support equipment, is intended to strengthen Bulgaria’s ability to counter regional threats and boost its participation in NATO operations.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said the proposed sale would enhance Bulgaria’s capacity to deter adversaries and meet future defence needs. It delivered the required congressional notification the same day.

Norway’s Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace AS has been named the principal contractor for the deal.
