A night out in Los Angeles turned tragic when a speeding vehicle plowed into a crowd outside a club on Santa Monica Boulevard, injuring at least 30 people — seven of them critically.
According to the fire department, seven victims are in critical condition, and six others suffered serious injuries.
"We categorized the patients based on their injuries. So we had a total of 30 patients. Twenty-three of those patients ultimately had to be transported. Out of those 30, there were about seven who were what we call critical or immediate. Six of those were delayed and another 10 were transported with minor injuries".
The incident occurred just before 2 a.m. local time, with eyewitnesses reporting that the vehicle first crashed into a taco truck and a valet stand before striking the crowd.
A paramedic discovered one individual had sustained a gunshot wound, though it remains unclear if this was related to the driver.
Authorities have sealed off the area and launched an investigation into the cause and the identity of the driver.
