Cambodia to Enforce Military Conscription from 2025

The Cambodian government will introduce a military conscription system starting next year, Prime Minister Hun Manet announced on Monday.

Although the conscription law was enacted in December 2006, it has yet to be implemented. According to the Khmer Times, significant legislative revisions are expected before the law is enforced, particularly regarding the duration of mandatory service.

Under the proposed changes, all Cambodian citizens aged between 18 and 30 will be required to serve for up to two years. Military service for women, however, will remain voluntary.

Official sources say the move aims to strengthen national defence and security. The government is currently working on both legal and technical preparations to ensure the law's successful implementation.
