A preliminary report on the Air India crash reveals the plane’s fuel cutoff switches were activated seconds after takeoff, cutting fuel to the engines. No aircraft or engine faults were identified.

A preliminary report into the Air India Boeing 787 crash on June 12, which killed 260 people, shows that seconds after takeoff from Ahmedabad, the plane’s engine fuel cutoff switches moved from run to cutoff, stopping fuel supply.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), with assistance from the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), recovered both black boxes and extracted data.

The report found no immediate fault in the aircraft or engines. Cockpit voice recordings captured a pilot questioning the fuel cutoff, with the other denying involvement. It did not specify who made the mayday calls.

A final report is expected within a year.
