The death toll from the collapse of a residential building in Karachi has risen to 27, Pakistani officials confirmed on Sunday, as a three-day rescue operation came to a close.

Emergency teams recovered 11 more bodies from the rubble of the multi-storey structure, which fell on Friday. Karachi police surgeon Dr Summayya Tariq said ten others were injured, one of whom later died in hospital.

Officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the collapse.

A similar incident in June 2020 saw 22 people killed when an apartment block collapsed in the same city.
