Former UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has hinted at launching a new political party before the next general election.

The former leader of the UK Labour Party and now an independent MP, spoke to news broadcaster ITV confirming discussions were underway with MPs in the 'Independent Alliance' group, which was formed last year.

Asked if he was preparing to establish a new party, Corbyn said, "This group (Independent Alliance) will come together, it will be an alternative."

He emphasised that the new party would focus on tackling "poverty and inequality" and promoting a "foreign policy based on peace rather than war."

When asked if he would lead the potential party, Corbyn responded, "I am here, working to serve our people."

Corbyn added that the Independent Alliance had worked effectively in Parliament over the past year and would continue to strengthen its unity.

In September 2024, five independent MPs, including Corbyn, announced the formation of the Independent Alliance in Parliament. The group includes Shockat Adam - the MP for Leicester South, Ayoub Khan - the MP for Birmingham Perry Barr, Adnan Hussain - the MP for Blackburn, and Iqbal Mohamed - the MP for Dewsbury and Batley. Corbyn was re-elected as an independent MP after Labour blocked his candidacy last year.

The Independent Alliance now holds the same number of MPs as the far-right Reform UK party and surpasses the Green Party, which has four MPs.

All five members of the alliance defeated Labour candidates in constituencies with large Muslim populations, campaigning strongly on their pro-Palestinian stance.
