The independent transmission operator ICGB will conduct annual auctions on July 7th and 21st for firm and interruptible capacity on the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector, offering participants a chance to secure key gas transmission capacity.
ICGB will hold its annual auctions for the available capacity of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector, offering firm products on July 7 and interruptible products on July 21. The auctions will cover capacity at the interconnection points (IPs) with TAP, DESFA, and Bulgartransgaz.
Firm products will be available for the next five consecutive gas years. Capacity at the IPs with DESFA and TAP will be sold on a competitive basis, while interruptible reverse (virtual) capacity will be offered for the 2025/2026 gas year.
The auctions will be hosted on the PRISMA platform for TAP and DESFA interconnections, while the Regional Booking Platform (RBP) will be used for the Stara Zagora IP with Bulgartransgaz.
ICGB encourages market participants to submit bids, as this move plays a crucial role in enhancing the region’s energy independence. The interconnector, which started operations less than three years ago, has over 45 registered users and is vital for diversifying gas supplies to Southeast Europe. It currently covers a significant portion of Bulgaria's domestic gas consumption.
With a pipeline length of 182 km and a design capacity of 3 billion m³/year, the IGB interconnector could expand to 5 billion m³/year depending on market demand and regional system capacities.
