The European Union has raised Ukraine's electricity export capacity by 38.5%, enabling the country to generate additional revenue to repair energy infrastructure damaged by Russian attacks.

The European Union has increased Ukraine's electricity export limit by 38.5%, allowing up to 900 megawatt hours of electricity to be exported.

This new limit will remain in place until 1 August, with a monthly review afterward, Ukraine’s energy ministry confirmed on Thursday.

Ukraine had previously exported electricity to the EU before Russia's full-scale invasion in 2022. However, these exports were halted after significant damage to Ukrainian power facilities. Exports resumed earlier this year.

Energy Minister German Galushchenko highlighted that the increased export capacity would help balance Ukraine's energy system, and also provide Ukrainian power plants with additional revenue. The funds will be used to repair damage caused by Russian attacks and prepare for the upcoming winter.
