Nepali Sherpa Kami Rita has set a new world record by scaling Mount Everest for the 31st time, guiding an Indian Army team to the summit.

At 55 years old, Kami Rita, a legendary Nepali Sherpa guide, has climbed Mount Everest for the 31st time, breaking the record he set just last year. He reached the 8,849-meter peak via the traditional southeast ridge route while leading a 22-member team from the Indian Army, along with 27 other Sherpas. A passionate climber since his first Everest summit in 1994, Kami Rita has only missed three climbing seasons due to mountain closures.

With over 8,000 people having scaled Everest since 1953, Sherpas like Rita continue to be the backbone of Nepal’s mountaineering industry, which plays a crucial role in the nation’s economy. This climbing season alone, over 300 climbers have reached the summit, despite fatalities and risks. “I am more happy that my climbs help Nepal be recognised in the world,” Kami Rita said, reflecting his pride in bringing global attention to his country through his record-breaking feats.
