Arteta dismisses added pressure on Arsenal in Champions League amid Premier League struggles
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has downplayed any additional pressure on his side as they prepare for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against PSV Eindhoven. Despite recent struggles in the Premier League, Arteta insists there are no heightened expectations surrounding their European campaign.
The Gunners put themselves in a strong position last week with a resounding 7-1 victory over PSV, effectively securing their place in the quarter-finals. However, their domestic form has been concerning, with three consecutive league games without a win, leaving them 15 points adrift of leaders Liverpool, although Arsenal have a game in hand. Additionally, they have been eliminated from both the FA Cup and League Cup.
Arteta acknowledged that the Champions League is a competition the team is passionate about, but he stressed that there’s no extra pressure. "We are very conscious of the demands of this football club to reach the highest level and win competitions," he stated. Arsenal could face holders Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid in the next round, with Arteta ready to give young players a chance to feature against PSV as a reward for their contributions to the team.
