Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly’s Monaco Grand Prix podium has been reinstated after Alpine successfully challenged his post-race penalties through a Right of Review request with the FIA.
Gasly had originally finished fourth on the road after starting ninth on the grid, recovering strongly through a chaotic race that featured two safety cars and a red flag. He also gained an additional position after Mercedes driver George Russell served a late drive-through penalty.
However, the French driver was handed two separate five-second penalties for speeding in the pit lane, which were added to his race time and dropped him to seventh in the final classification — a result that left him deeply disappointed.
Following the race, Alpine submitted a Right of Review request, arguing that new, significant and relevant evidence had not been considered in the original decision.
A hearing took place on Thursday during the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix weekend.
The FIA later confirmed on Friday, 12 June that the stewards had accepted the new evidence and rescinded both penalties, reinstating Gasly’s third-place finish and restoring his Monaco podium.
Alpine welcomed the decision, saying the team appreciated the FIA’s transparency and cooperation throughout the process. The team also said its focus would now shift to the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.
The ruling also reshuffles the final standings, with Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar losing his podium result and being demoted to fourth, while McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and the Racing Bulls drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad each drop one position in the revised classification.
