Kenya’s Beatrice Chebet broke the women’s 5000-metre world record on Saturday, becoming the first woman in history to run the distance in under 14 minutes.
The 25-year-old Olympic champion shattered the previous world record of 14:00.21, set by Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay at the same event in 2023. Chebet, who won both the 5000m and 10,000m gold at the Paris Olympics, is only the third woman to complete that Olympic double.
