China’s winter tourism continues to grow rapidly, with Heilongjiang leading the way by welcoming over 130 million visitors this season.
China's winter tourism sector is experiencing remarkable growth, with Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China at the forefront of this boom. The province has welcomed over 130 million visitors during the 2024-2025 ice and snow season, marking an impressive 18.5% increase compared to the previous year.
Tourist spending in Heilongjiang has reached 211 billion yuan (approximately 28 billion euros), reflecting a 30% year-on-year rise. According to tourism officials, this surge in visitors and spending underscores Heilongjiang's pivotal role in driving China's winter economy.
The province has also benefited from new visa-free policies for China-Russia tourist groups, boosting cross-border travel. Nearly 900,000 inbound tourists visited Heilongjiang this season, a significant increase from last year.
Thanks to strategic policies and ongoing infrastructure improvements, other regions in China are advancing their winter tourism sectors as well. Experts attribute the rapid growth of China's winter economy to a combination of resource integration, infrastructure investment, and innovative tourism policies.
With strong domestic demand and growing international appeal, China's winter tourism sector is poised to remain a global leader in the years ahead.
