More than 10 international flights selected Heydar Aliyev International Airport as an alternate aerodrome

With Iranian, Iraqi and Israeli skies abruptly restricted, Heydar Aliyev International Airport stepped in as a regional lifeline on Friday morning, safely receiving a stream of diverted jets from six international carriers and underscoring Baku’s capacity to reroute air traffic in a crisis.

Following the closure of Iranian, Iraqi and Israeli airspace, Heydar Aliyev International Airport received diversion requests from several carriers seeking a safe corridor for ongoing services. Thanks to swift decision-making and close coordination, the airport welcomed the following aircraft on Friday morning:

AJet: Istanbul → Tehran (Boeing 737)

Fly Dubai: Minsk → Dubai, Kazan → Dubai, St Petersburg → Dubai, Moscow → Dubai (Boeing 737)

Air Arabia: Moscow → Sharjah (Airbus A320)

Jazeera Airways: Makhachkala → Kuwait, Moscow → Kuwait (Airbus A320)

Etihad Airways: Moscow → Abu Dhabi (Boeing 787)

Turkish Airlines: Istanbul → Phuket (Boeing 777); Istanbul → Singapore (Airbus A330)

Each arrival was managed in line with Baku Airport’s priorities of passenger safety, comfort and rapid logistics. The incident once again underscored the airport’s role as a dependable regional transit hub, fully equipped to reroute international traffic swiftly and securely whenever emergency situations arise.
