Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei praised the launch of the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations during a briefing in Baku, highlighting strong bilateral and multilateral support for intercultural cooperation.
Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei emphasized the importance of fostering mutual understanding between cultures and religions at a briefing marking the first-ever International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations.
“The dialogue among civilizations promotes mutual understanding and cooperation between different cultures and religions,” Ambassador Lu said, noting that the United Nations initiative allows people to recognize and respect cultural differences, which she called essential for global peace.
Azerbaijan is among 84 countries that have endorsed the initiative, supporting the UN resolution led by China to declare June 10 as the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations.
Ambassador Lu underlined that this initiative aligns closely with Azerbaijan’s long-standing efforts to promote intercultural dialogue, including through the “Baku Process” and various international forums held in the capital.
She also pointed to growing China-Azerbaijan ties, referencing the Joint Declaration on the Establishment of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed by Presidents Xi Jinping and Ilham Aliyev in April.
“The declaration confirms Azerbaijan’s strong support for China’s Global Civilization Initiative, and both countries are committed to jointly promoting respect for cultural diversity, cooperation, and exchange,” she said.
China, in turn, supports Azerbaijan’s cultural diplomacy, including the Baku Process, which has become a recognized platform for fostering intercultural dialogue and global civilizational exchange.
“This mutual support demonstrates both countries’ commitment to ensuring that intercultural exchange overcomes barriers, that mutual enrichment prevails over conflict, and that coexistence triumphs over any notion of dominance,” Ambassador Lu concluded.
