Azerbaijan secures a seat on the UNWTO Executive Council, marking a milestone in its global tourism diplomacy.
An Azerbaijani delegation led by Fuad Naghiyev, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency, participated in the 123rd session of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Executive Council in Segovia, Spain. During the session, Azerbaijan officially joined the Executive Council, strengthening its role in global tourism governance.
The Council addressed key topics including innovation, investment, education, and global tourism recovery. Elections were held for the 2026–2029 Secretary-General term, with Shaikha Al Nowais nominated—set to become the first woman to lead the organization upon confirmation. Delegates also reviewed global tourism trends and prepared for the upcoming 26th General Assembly and future World Tourism Day themes.
The Azerbaijani delegation included Ramiz Hasanov, Ambassador to Spain and Permanent Representative to the UNWTO, reflecting the country’s growing engagement in international tourism platforms.
