Yasin Huseynzade, the attacker responsible for the deadly assault on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran in January 2023, has been executed in Tehran.
On January 27, 2023, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran was targeted in a terrorist attack carried out by Yasin Huseynzade. Armed with a Kalashnikov rifle, Huseynzade breached the embassy’s guard post and opened fire inside the mission. The attack resulted in the tragic death of Orkhan Asgarov, head of the embassy’s security service, and left two other staff members injured.
Despite efforts by the embassy staff to neutralize the attacker, the incident forced the embassy to suspend operations. The diplomatic mission resumed its activities on July 15, 2024. Today, Iranian authorities executed Huseynzade in response to the attack.
