Azerbaijan’s ongoing demining efforts in territories liberated following the 2020 Karabakh conflict have resulted in the detection and neutralization of 23 anti-tank mines, 36 anti-personnel mines, and 377 unexploded ordnance (UXO) between May 12 and 18, according to the ANAMA.
The figures, released in ANAMA’s latest weekly operational update, highlight the scale and intensity of the country’s humanitarian demining campaign, which aims to ensure the safe return of displaced residents and enable infrastructure development.
In total, 1,291.8 hectares of land were cleared during the reporting period, covering strategic and residential areas in some of the most mine-affected regions.
Mine clearance operations were jointly conducted by ANAMA, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES), the State Border Service (SBS), and four private companies. The efforts spanned across the districts of Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankandi, Shusha, Khojavand, Lachin, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Gubadli, and Zangilan.
Notably, demining teams also operated in newly liberated villages in the Gazakh region - Baghanis Ayrim, Ashagi Askipara, Kheyrimli, and Gizilhajili - which were returned to Azerbaijan as part of recent border normalization efforts.
