Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan is set to meet NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Ankara on Monday to discuss the Russia-Ukraine conflict, a Turkish official confirmed on Sunday.
The meeting follows Russia’s use of a hypersonic missile against Ukraine, escalating tensions after Kyiv's deployment of U.S. and British missiles.
Türkiye, a NATO member, condemns Russia’s invasion and supports Ukraine’s territorial integrity, providing military aid to Kyiv. However, it maintains defence, energy, and tourism ties with Moscow and opposes Western sanctions against Russia.
Erdogan recently criticised the U.S. decision to allow Ukraine to use long-range missiles against Russia, warning it could intensify the conflict.
The talks will also cover NATO’s efforts to combat terrorism and the easing of defence procurement barriers among allies.
