Moldova is interested in importing natural gas from Azerbaijan to diversify its energy sources and enhance national energy security, the country’s energy minister said in Baku.
Speaking at the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council in Baku, Moldovan Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu emphasized the importance of diversifying gas supply routes, highlighting potential imports from Azerbaijan as a strategic priority.
He noted that natural gas remains essential to Moldova’s energy system—not only for domestic electricity generation but also for maintaining stability and adaptability within Europe’s broader energy network.
Junghietu described the Vertical Gas Corridor as a critical component of Moldova’s long-term energy strategy. He stressed that increasing access to varied suppliers, especially through partnerships with Azerbaijan, will help the country meet its energy demands more securely.
Reaffirming Moldova’s support for the Southern Gas Corridor, the minister emphasized shared regional goals of ensuring energy security, promoting sustainability, and enhancing integration. He added that through collaboration, the participating countries can successfully navigate upcoming challenges and create a more stable and prosperous energy landscape.
