A guard of honor was presented in a square adorned with the national flags of both countries.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva warmly received President Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender.
The chief of the guard of honor made a report to the German President.
The national anthems of Germany and Azerbaijan were performed.
The guard of honor marched before Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, accompanied by a military march.
The two Presidents then posed for official photographs.
