Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has appointed Aleksandr Turchin as the Prime Minister of Belarus, whose motto is "evolution without revolution".
"The goals and objectives for the government remain unchanged",- Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said as he addressed the Council of Ministers.
Earlier, Turchin served as a presidential aide and government chief of staff. He was first deputy prime minister in 2018 and headed the Minsk regional administration in 2019.
Turchin is replacing Roman Golovchenko, who has held the office of prime minister since June 2020 and was now appointed head of the National Bank.
"The most important priority is growth, but not just any growth—balanced economic growth. Achieving certain indicators should not come at the expense of others. Finding the right mechanism, where all macroeconomic parameters are balanced, is a critical and often difficult task. But we must accomplish it through joint efforts,"- he emphasized.
The government will focus on the five-year social and economic development program.
Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi outlined the tasks for the new government during a ceremony of new cabinet's introduction.
"Work will continue on the program of social and economic development of the Republic of Belarus for the next five-year period which will be presented at the Belarusian People's Congress. The goals of these documents are also clear-cut: to ensure a high standard of living in our country,"- said Krutoi.
Three priority areas were highlighted: the first is enhancing the country's export capabilities, the second is investment projects, and the third is the adoption of new technologies.
"In the newly appointed government, we have several former governors, the mayor of Minsk, and this is, in practice, the actual implementation of the president's election program thesis: 'Strong regions - strong country.' Communication with the regions should become closer, tighter, and more substantive," said Dmitry Krutoi.
