Daily Brief: 5 takeaways from ADEX 2026

Here's your AnewZ Daily Brief for 2 October 2026. There are five takeaways from the ADEX 2026 defence exhibition in Baku, which closes today (2 October).

Biggest exhibition yet

More than 270 companies from 29 nations confirmed participation in the sixth defence exhibition, with 14 countries represented by national pavilions. The newly built Pavilion 5 at the Baku Expo Center had to be opened to accommodate the larger footprint. A total of 59 foreign delegations registered to attend the event.

Drones and robotic systems took centre stage

Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defence Industry presented an armed ground robot, a kamikaze ground robot and a wheeled unmanned ground robot, alongside a BARS-type interceptor drone designed to neutralise enemy drones. An attack UAV developed jointly with Türkiye was shown for the first time. It is 3.5 metres long with a 3.2-metre wingspan and a two-hour flight time.

Türkiye and Azerbaijan sign more than $500 million in deals

The agreements with Turkish companies include 14 trainer aircraft, cooperation on Aselan's ALP-100 radar, drone systems from Baykar, and Roketsan's Barbaros coastal defence system. Türkiye also had the largest national representation at the exhibition. Turkish weapons manufacturer Roketsan was the general sponsor of ADEX. 

Other countries emerge as key partners

The U.S. company Northrop Grumman was the country partner sponsor. Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady and Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva also viewed the stand of Italy's defence firm Leonardo. Since 2024, Baku has signed arms procurement or military technology cooperation agreements with Israel, Türkiye, Italy, Pakistan, Serbia and the Czech Republic. 

Azerbaijan's defence industry in the spotlight

For the first time, Hall 4 was fully dedicated to the national exposition. Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence Industry, Ministry of Defence and Mine Action Agency took part there alongside Azercosmos and Azersilah.. The Ministry of Defence Industry alone presented 130 product samples. The domestically produced items unveiled included kamikaze drones, unmanned ground vehicles, small arms, ammunition and artillery systems.
