Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze met UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the side lines of the ongoing Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
The bilateral meeting signalled Gorgia’s growing emphasis on closer economic and investment cooperation with Eastern partners, particularly the United Arab Emirates.
According to the Georgian Government Administration, the talks focused on the positive dynamics of Georgia–UAE relations, driven by strong political dialogue and expanding economic ties.
The sides noted the importance of the UAE President’s official visit to Georgia last year, which helped elevate bilateral cooperation to a new level.
A central topic of discussion was investment. Georgian officials highlighted the $6.6 billion Eagle Hills investment, describing it as one of the largest foreign investments in Georgia’s history.
The project is expected to support long-term economic growth, urban development, tourism, and job creation, while also reinforcing investor confidence from the Gulf region.
The meeting also addressed infrastructure and logistics projects, including the Tbilisi Dry Port, implemented with UAE investment.
The project plays a strategic role in strengthening Georgia’s position as a regional transit hub, linking Europe and Asia through the Middle Corridor.
From a broader perspective, the meeting reflects Georgia’s efforts to diversify its foreign partnerships at a time of strained relations with Western institutions.
As political tensions with the EU and some Western partners persist, Tbilisi is increasingly looking toward the East and Gulf states, particularly the UAE, to attract investment, expand trade, and reinforce its role in regional connectivity projects such as the Middle Corridor.
The Georgian delegation included senior officials responsible for foreign affairs, economy, environment, justice, and government administration, highlighting the high priority Georgia places on relations with the UAE and on deepening economic cooperation with Gulf countries.
