Azerbaijan ratifies United Nations framework for combating cybercrime

A solemn signing ceremony for the United Nations Convention on Countering Cybercrime was held on 25–26 October 2025 in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, according to Azernews.

The event brought together UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Vietnamese President Lương Cường, heads of national delegations, representatives of international organisations, and global experts.

By presidential decree, Colonel General Ali Nagiyev, Head of the State Security Service, signed the Convention on behalf of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan’s role as one of the first signatories highlights its commitment under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev to fostering international cooperation in the fight against cybercrime and ensuring global cybersecurity.

The Convention seeks to strengthen legal collaboration between states, prevent the misuse of information and communication technologies, and establish mechanisms for the international exchange and handling of electronic evidence.

A total of 72 countries signed the document during the two-day event, marking a significant milestone in global efforts to build a safer and more resilient digital environment.
