Practical solutions for building sustainable and inclusive cities took the centre stage on day 2 of the National Urban Forum holding in Khankendi, Azerbaijan.
The day began with discussion on urban -rural linkages, exploring how balanced development can support social and economic growth.
The theme of the day “Towards Climate-Resilient and Healthy Cities: Harnessing Regional Partnerships and Innovative Solutions” was organized in partnership with the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).
Officials from Turkey, China and Azerbaijan who were present at the forum shared knowledge and traded ideas on the theme.
They spoke about their various countries' experience in making quality housing accessible for its citizens through innovative finance mechanisms and public -private partnerships.
Speakers included Nigar Arpadarayi, Member of Parliament and COP29 High -Level Champion and Katya Schaefer, Inter -Regional Advisor on UN Habitat.
Later in the day, discussions at the event turned to mobility, data and urban health; from smarter transport planning to designing cities that support the well being, safety and inclusion of people.
The forum for its third day will move to Baku where climate resilience and innovation in urban development will be the focus.
Azerbaijan, already a regional power house in logistics, energy and climate activism remains a trailblazer as it shifts its focus to building better, inclusive and sustainable cities.
The forum held in Khankendi Congress Center, is bringing together by up to 400 representatives of public and private institutions, international organizations, academic institutions, and civil society from more than 60 countries.
