According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), between 2020 and 2024, Türkiye’s exports to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan totalled $36.6 billion, while imports from these countries reached $26 billion.
Overall, Türkiye’s trade volume with member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) amounted to $62.6 billion over the past five years.
During this period, Azerbaijan exported goods worth $5.3 billion to Türkiye, mainly mineral fuels, cotton, aluminium, iron, and steel products. Türkiye’s exports to Azerbaijan totalled $12.8 billion, dominated by machinery, mechanical devices, plastics, and motor vehicles. In terms of energy cooperation, both countries transport oil and gas to Europe via the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC), Baku–Tbilisi–Erzurum (BTE), and Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) projects.
The opening of the Zangezur Corridor is expected to further strengthen trade relations between Türkiye and Azerbaijan by reducing logistics costs and increasing transit capacity. The corridor will also serve as an infrastructure route for energy and digital communication interconnections.
Trade with Kazakhstan over the past five years exceeded $23.4 billion, with Türkiye exporting $10.2 billion and importing $13.2 billion. Key exports include machinery, knitwear, and accessories, while imports from Kazakhstan mainly consist of copper and copper products, mineral fuels, and aluminium. In July this year, the two countries signed a railway agreement for the Middle Corridor to enhance rail freight volumes and service quality.
Trade with Kyrgyzstan reached $5.4 billion, while trade with Uzbekistan totalled $15.8 billion. Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan remain Türkiye’s main trading partners in the region.
The data was released ahead of the 12th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the OTS, scheduled next week in Gabala, northern Azerbaijan. The summit will focus on regional peace, security, cooperation, and prosperity. The founding members of the OTS are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Türkiye, with Uzbekistan joining in 2019. Hungary, Turkmenistan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) hold observer status.
