Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met French President Emmanuel Macron in Copenhagen on 2 October to discuss regional peace and bilateral relations.

President Emmanuel Macron congratulated Ilham Aliyev on the progress achieved in the normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. He underlined that the steps taken so far were an important contribution to wider regional stability, welcoming the progress made on advancing the peace agenda.

Expressing gratitude for the congratulations, President Ilham Aliyev stressed the historic significance of the results achieved in Washington, which were witnessed by the President of the United States. He noted that the agreements reached there had opened a new chapter in efforts to promote peace in the South Caucasus. According to the Azerbaijani head of state, joint work is already underway in different areas to translate those commitments into tangible outcomes for the region.

The two leaders also reviewed the current state of relations between Azerbaijan and France. While acknowledging that political dialogue has seen challenges in recent years, they underscored the importance of creating new opportunities for constructive engagement. Both sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation in the economic and energy fields, as well as in cultural and educational exchanges, which remain an integral part of bilateral ties.

The Copenhagen meeting took place on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit, where more than 40 leaders gathered to discuss Europe’s security, energy, and resilience. Against this backdrop, the Aliyev-Macron talks highlighted the significance of maintaining direct dialogue between Azerbaijan and France, two countries whose cooperation could shape broader regional and continental dynamics.
