First Half
The opening chances came early. In the 3rd minute, Abdülkerim Bardakcı played a long pass to Yunus Akgün, who fed Barış Alper Yılmaz. Barış’s shot from the left side of the box was saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson and pushed out for a corner.
At the 8th minute, Gakpo’s cross found Ekitike at the penalty spot, but his header went over the bar.
In the 14th minute, Ekitike broke through on goal after a pass from Gakpo but was denied by Galatasaray keeper Uğurcan. Gakpo’s follow-up shot was cleared off the line by Jakobs.
Galatasaray took the lead in the 16th minute when Barış Alper Yılmaz, after breaking past Szoboszlai, was fouled in the box. Osimhen converted the penalty to make it 1-0.
Several further attempts from Liverpool, including strikes from Sanchez and Wirtz, were kept out by Uğurcan and the Galatasaray defence.
Second Half
Liverpool continued to press, with Ekitike, Osimhen, and Isak testing the Galatasaray defence, but were unable to find an equaliser. Key chances included Ekitike’s backheel in the 49th minute and Osimhen’s drive in the 54th.
Galatasaray held on to claim a 1-0 victory, maintaining their advantage from the first half.
The win marks an important start for the Turkish side in this season’s Champions League group stage.
