"The historical ties" between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are "the foundation of our current relations," said Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev during his meeting with Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Baku on Wednesday (16 July).
President Aliyev underlined the "deep-rooted" traditions of "brotherhood" shared by the people of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, noting that these ties have been further strengthened since the two countries gained independence.
He emphasised that both states pursue independent policies and look confidently toward the future.
“We are successfully cooperating across many fields,” said the president.
“We have significant achievements in political, economic, humanitarian areas, as well as in transport and energy. Today, we will also exchange views on our future cooperation. I believe your visit will give a fresh impetus to our relations, ” added the president.
