A deadly building collapse in Egypt’s central Asyut province has claimed the lives of at least six people, among them a mother and her two children, prompting an urgent safety review of the surrounding area.

At least six people, including a mother and her two children, lost their lives on Friday following the collapse of a three-storey building in Egypt’s central Asyut province, according to Xinhua.

A statement released on the province’s official Facebook page confirmed that 11 others were injured and subsequently taken to the nearest public hospital by civil protection teams.

Rapid response units were working to clear the rubble in search of further survivors, the statement added. An emergency engineering committee has also been established to determine the cause of the collapse and assess the structural safety of nearby buildings.
