Thousands of Israelis gathered on the streets of Rishon Lezion, on Wednesday, to honour Shiri Bibas and her two young sons, Kfir and Ariel, during their funeral procession.
Shiri and her children were kidnapped during the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. While Shiri's husband, Yarden, was also taken from their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz, he was separated from the family and released on February 1 as part of a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
After her body was initially misidentified during a handover, Hamas released remains on February 21 that Israeli authorities confirmed was Shiri’s. Reports from Israel’s army radio suggested that Shiri and her children were likely killed while in captivity.
The funeral procession began in Rishon Lezion and will pass through several cities, including Yavne, Ashdod, and Ashkelon, before reaching the Sha’ar HaNegev Regional Council near the Gaza border.
