Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, arrived in Damascus on Thursday, making history as the first head of state to visit Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
According to a statement from Qatar’s Emiri Diwan, Sheikh Tamim was greeted at Damascus airport by Syria's interim President, Ahmed al-Sharaa.
This marks the Qatari emir’s first visit to Syria in over 14 years and the first visit by any Arab or foreign leader since December 8, 2024.
