“This Christmas, I will be hoping for peace, particularly in the Middle East as the birthplace of the Christmas story,” he said. Starmer added that the festive season reminds people of what matters: “Family, friendship, and fellowship between all.”
The Arab region faces critical challenges, including Israel's ongoing operations in Gaza, security tensions in Lebanon, and Syria's political upheaval. In Gaza, over 45,300 have been killed since October in an Israeli offensive, with Palestinians accusing Israel of aiming to displace them.
The humanitarian crisis worsens as aid is blocked, leaving residents near famine. The ICC recently issued war crime warrants for Israeli leaders, intensifying international scrutiny.
