Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, Beijing’s chief trade negotiator, is set to arrive in London on Sunday for a six-day visit, ahead of the inaugural meeting of the China-US Economic and Trade Consultative Mechanism scheduled for Monday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced.

He Lifeng will lead China’s delegation in the long-anticipated trade talks with the United States, aimed at reviving dialogue after previous negotiations stalled. The talks follow a phone call last week between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which Trump described as having reached a "very positive conclusion for both countries."

On Friday, Trump confirmed via his Truth Social platform that the U.S. delegation will include Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. No additional details were provided on the agenda.

The talks will mark the first formal engagement since the May 12 agreement in which both sides committed to a 90-day suspension of most tariffs and a rollback of certain trade restrictions. However, tensions have since escalated, with each side accusing the other of breaching the deal.

Trump has claimed China failed to meet its commitments, particularly in areas involving critical minerals and tech exports. In response, Beijing has called the accusations “groundless” and warned of potential countermeasures to defend its interests.

Vice Premier He's London visit, which runs through June 13, is seen as a critical effort to prevent further deterioration in bilateral economic relations and stabilize global markets amid ongoing uncertainty over tariffs and trade policy.
