A vibrant cultural exchange fair celebrating the rich traditions of Kazakhstan and China drew large crowds to Abai Square in Almaty this week, offering visitors an immersive experience into the music, cuisine, and crafts of both nations.
The event was held as part of the second Central Asia–China Summit and coincided with a delegation visit from the Chinese city of Xi’an.
Organized as a showcase of bilateral friendship and cultural diplomacy, the fair featured live musical and dance performances, interactive workshops, and exhibits highlighting traditional arts and customs. Attendees sampled Kazakh national dishes, explored ethnic attire, and engaged in activities hosted by local artisans.
On the Chinese side, guests were treated to a Hanfu costume show, traditional tea ceremonies, calligraphy demonstrations, and authentic Xi’an cuisine. Cultural souvenirs, folk art, and consultations with Chinese traditional medicine practitioners added depth to the showcase.
The event also served as a cultural highlight for passengers aboard the new "Xi’an – Almaty" tourist train, which marks a significant step in expanding regional connectivity and tourism cooperation. According to officials, the number of tourists from China to Kazakhstan has surged ninefold, underscoring growing interest in cross-cultural exchange.
The fair, with its mix of artistic expression and people-to-people engagement, reflects the strengthening ties between Kazakhstan and China. It was not only a platform for cultural appreciation but also part of a broader itinerary that includes business meetings, symposiums, and city tours, aiming to deepen economic and diplomatic cooperation alongside cultural understanding.
