Uzbekistan and Iran are working toward increasing bilateral trade to $2 billion, as discussed during high-level talks in Tehran between the two countries' government delegations.
Uzbekistan and Iran have set an ambitious goal to increase their bilateral trade turnover to $2 billion. The issue was a key focus of discussions held in Tehran between the delegation of the Uzbek government, led by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, and the Iranian delegation, headed by First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref. The meeting took place as part of Uzbekistan’s official visit to Iran, which will continue through May 12.
During the talks, both sides explored opportunities to expand trade volumes through enhanced cooperation in transport, logistics, and industrial collaboration. It was emphasized that addressing existing infrastructural and administrative barriers could pave the way for sustained growth in mutual trade.
The delegations also discussed expanding cooperation in science, technology, education, and cultural and humanitarian exchanges. There was mutual interest in strengthening interregional ties and promoting tourism between the two nations.
Following the discussions, several key documents were signed:
- A "Roadmap" for strengthening comprehensive cooperation for 2025–2027
- A protocol approving a list of goods under the Preferential Trade Agreement
- A memorandum of understanding on plant quarantine and protection
- A memorandum of cooperation on halal standardization
