Uzbekistan’s flag carrier has announced airline’s plan to purchase a dozen of aircrafts from Boeing and Airbus, marking a significant milestone in upgrading and expanding its fleet.
A state-owned carrier Uzbekistan Airways plans to sign a memorandum for delivery of 14 widebody airliners Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners with the U.S. manufacturer this year, its chairman Shukhrat Khudaykulov said.
Uzbekistan Airways will expand its long-range capacity with this deal that is valued at $2 billion. Delivery of airplanes is scheduled between 2029 and 2032.
The fleet expansion aligns with Uzbekistan's overall effort to improve its aviation industry. On January 16, 2025, the country's president ordered that $400 million be raised in international financial markets for the transport sector, of which $100 million will be destined for the national carrier.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan Airways signed a deal with Airbus to procure 14 aircraft, expected between 2028 and 2030, as President Shavkat Mirziyoyev officially visited France.
These purchases are part of the airline's long-term expansion plan, which includes upgrading its services and becoming a major player in the Central Asian aviation market
