Russian President Vladimir Putin was welcomed in Bishkek on Wednesday as he began a three-day state visit to Kyrgyzstan ahead of a Collective Security Treaty Organisation summit.
Putin, who arrived on Tuesday, was greeted by President Sadyr Japarov at a formal ceremony in the Kyrgyz capital, where a military band played and the two leaders inspected an honour guard, according to footage released by the Russian presidential press service.
The Kremlin said Putin and Japarov will hold talks on strengthening the countries’ strategic partnership and allied cooperation across multiple sectors. The Russian leader is also scheduled to join a CSTO session later in the visit.
Officials in Bishkek said further bilateral agreements may be discussed during the visit, although no details have yet been announced.
