Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev is on a working visit to Turkmenistan with a view to strengthen ties and boosting regional cooperation with the central Asian country.
President Aliyev arrived was received with a guard of honour following his arrival at the Turkmenbashi Airport on Friday 22 August.
His visit featured a one on one meeting with Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, focusing on strengthening ties and advancing regional cooperation.
There was also a joint meeting between the leaders if Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan who posed for official photos before the high level talks began.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived in Turkmenistan on 22 August for a working visit at the invitation of Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. A guard of honour was lined up at Turkmenbashi International Airport, where he was welcomed by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers for Trade Nokerguly Atagulyev and other officials.

During the meeting, Berdimuhamedov welcomed President Aliyev, highlighting the close ties between the two nations and the importance of their regional partnership. He noted that the upcoming trilateral meeting between Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan would further enhance cooperation across cultural and other sectors.
President Aliyev expressed gratitude for the invitation and warm reception, recalling their recent meetings in Baku, Fuzuli, and Shusha. He praised the development of the city of Avaza and emphasised the enduring friendship between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. Aliyev also underlined the value of the planned trilateral discussions, citing shared history, culture, language, and religion as strong foundations for deeper collaboration.
