Kazakhstan has started construction of its first nuclear power plant near Ulken village, with completion expected in 2035-2036.
Kazakhstan has officially launched the construction of its first nuclear power plant near the village of Ulken in the Almaty Region, Kazinform News Agency reported on Friday.
Almassadam Satkaliyev, chairman of the Atomic Energy Agency of Kazakhstan, said the project would require a total investment of 14 billion to 15 billion U.S. dollars. An additional 1 billion dollars has been allocated for the development of social facilities and modern infrastructure to support the project.
At the launch ceremony, drilling work commenced to collect soil samples, which will be sent to Russia for analysis.
According to Satkaliyev, the plant is projected to be completed between 2035 and 2036, marking a milestone in Kazakhstan’s energy sector development.
