Azerbaijan's initiative for a global ceasefire, launched on September 21 in observance of the International Day of Peace and in conjunction with its chairmanship of the 29th UN Climate Change Conference (COP29), has gained the backing of all member states of the Non-Aligned Movement, Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry informed.
A total of 127 countries have joined the ceasefire call thus far. The initiative aims to underscore the link between climate change and conflicts, promote collective solutions to protect vulnerable populations, and encourage cooperation that could foster peace. The call urges all parties involved in conflicts to observe a ceasefire during November, when the COP29 session will be held.
The Foreign Ministry noted that this appeal has not only received support from governments but also from more than 1,000 international institutions, private sector entities, civil society organizations, and influential public figures.
