North Korea has urged the United States to abandon military threats if it is concerned about its mainland security, state media KCNA reported on Saturday. The statement follows U.S. assessments of North Korea’s ICBM capability to reach American territory.
Citing an official from North Korea’s defence ministry, the KCNA report rejected U.S. concerns over Pyongyang’s missile capabilities, saying Washington’s own actions were escalating tensions.
The report accused the United States of confrontation, pointing to joint military drills with South Korea and the recent deployment of a nuclear submarine to the Korean Peninsula.
North Korea defended its missile program, calling it a sovereign right to strengthen self-defence, and criticised Washington’s approach as fueling instability in the region.
The remarks come after the head of U.S. Northern Command acknowledged North Korea’s advancing missile capabilities, reigniting security concerns in Washington.
