American pop star Justin Timberlake has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with Lyme disease, calling the condition "relentlessly debilitating" in a heartfelt Instagram post shared on Thursday (31 July) following the end of his latest tour.
In a lengthy message reflecting on the conclusion of his Forget Tomorrow and JT Live '25 tours, the 43-year-old singer revealed that he had quietly battled the illness while continuing to perform across the globe.
“As many of you know, I'm a pretty private person. But as I'm reflecting on the tour and festival tour — I want to tell you a little bit about what's going on with me,” Timberlake wrote.
“Among other things, I've been battling some health issues, and was diagnosed with Lyme disease — which I don't say so you feel bad for me but to shed some light on what I've been up against behind the scenes.”
He described his initial reaction to the diagnosis as one of shock, finally understanding why he had suffered from “a massive amount of nerve pain,” fatigue, and persistent sickness while onstage.
“Living with this can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically,” he said.
Faced with the decision of whether to halt his tour, Timberlake chose to press on.
“I decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going,” he added.
“Not only did I prove my mental tenacity to myself but, I now have so many special moments with all of you that I will never forget.”
Lyme disease is a bacterial infection typically spread through tick bites. If untreated, it can result in serious complications affecting the joints, heart, and nervous system.
Timberlake also paid tribute to his fans and tour crew, saying their support sustained him through difficult moments.
“Your energy and love continues to humble me. Your signs, messages, and DIY T-shirts have made me laugh and smile so many times,” he wrote.
Addressing his wife, Jessica Biel, and their children, he closed the note with a message of deep affection. “To Jess, Silas, and Phin... Nothing is more powerful than your unconditional love. You are my heart and my home. I'm on my way... With love, JT”
The singer said he hoped by sharing his struggles, he could help others facing similar health battles. “Sharing all of this with the hope that we can all find a way to be more connected,” he wrote. “I'd like to do my part to help others experiencing this disease too.”
Timberlake, a former NSYNC member and Grammy-winning solo artist, has been performing for over three decades. He remains one of the most recognised names in pop music, with a career spanning music, film, and television.
